bodhaka brightchalk · the after-school study room

The study room where marks are a side effect.

Every evening, millions of children open an app that hands them answers. Answers don't build minds. BrightChalk is different: it explains, watches your child solve, asks them to articulate, runs experiments, and looks after their mind. The marks follow on their own.

Most AI tutors are chat windows. A chat window cannot tell the difference between a child who understands and a child who copied. A study room can.

98%

A one-on-one tutored child can outperform 98% of classmates.*

Benjamin Bloom (1984) demonstrated that one-on-one tutoring with mastery learning leads to strong learning gains.
Bodhaka BrightChalk applies the same principles of personalization, feedback, and practice to help students improve consistently.

fig. 01 · bloom's two sigma Chart of Bloom's 2 Sigma finding: tutored students outperform 98% of conventionally taught students
From Benjamin Bloom (1984). Bell curves show the score distributions of students in conventional classrooms, mastery learning groups, and one on one tutoring.
*Bloom's 2 sigma finding came from small sample experiments at the University of Chicago, conducted in controlled conditions and combining one on one (or small group) tutoring with mastery learning techniques. Later reviews have noted that the original effect size is difficult to reproduce at scale, and that real world outcomes depend heavily on tutor quality, curriculum design, and how engaged a student is. We treat the research as direction, not a guaranteed outcome.
chapter two · what we built from it

Things you won't find in a chatbot.

Most AI tutors are chat windows that hand out answers. BrightChalk is a study room. Seven rooms-within-the-room, each doing a job a chat window can't:

01

Dual Tutor Mode

Explain

A tutor narrates a concept on the blackboard. If your child gets stuck, they switch to a slower, step-by-step mode for the same topic. No early confusion that snowballs later.

02

Interactive Whiteboard

Practice

Your child solves problems on the board themselves. When they go off track, they can seek AI help, like a teacher at the shoulder, not an answer key.

03

Concept Articulation

Verify

Your child explains a topic back in their own words. The AI listens, evaluates clarity, points out the gaps, and suggests what to revisit. If you can't explain it, you don't know it yet.

04

Virtual Labs & Physics Playground

Practice

Run experiments and explore motion, gravity, and reactions, without the wait for lab access, the broken beakers, or the school timetable.

05

Build Your Own AI App

Make

Your child describes the app they want in plain English and vibe-codes it alongside the AI. They test it live, fix what breaks, and walk away with something real they built, not a tutorial they followed.

06

Personalised Project Guide

Make

Your child picks a topic they're curious about. The AI suggests a project that fits, auto-generates the code and the simulation behind it. They run it, change things, see what happens. Curiosity turns into something they made.

07

Newton's Playground

Practice

Tweak the mass, the gravity, the angle, the damping. Watch how a projectile, an inclined plane, an Atwood machine, an orbit, or a charged particle behaves when the numbers change. Equations stop being symbols and start meaning something they can see.

chapter three · the method behind it

Why eleven methods, when one explanation feels like enough?

Because one brilliant explanation is never enough. Real understanding comes from layering many methods on top of each other, until nothing slips through.

The Swiss Cheese Model comes from aviation safety. The idea is simple: no single safeguard is perfect; every one of them has holes. But if you stack enough of them, the holes stop lining up, and almost nothing slips through.
fig. 02 · the swiss cheese model, applied to learning The Swiss Cheese Model: a confused question passes through layered teaching methods until a solid layer stops it
a confused question slips through the holes of one method and is caught by the next

Think of every teaching method as a slice of swiss cheese. The lecture has its holes. The textbook has its holes. Even a brilliant tutor has off days. A traditional AI chatbot is a single slice: whatever it misses, your child misses too. And those small misses pile up into big gaps by the time exams arrive.

BrightChalk stacks eleven slices, not one. The tutor explains. Socratic mode questions. The whiteboard makes them solve. Labs make them experiment. Articulation makes them teach it back. Quizzes catch what slipped. The strength indicator points to what needs another pass.

Stack the slices the right way and the holes stop lining up. A question that starts confused comes out the other side as something your child actually understands, has tested, and can explain in their own words.

That is the difference between guessing the answer and knowing it.

  1. Dual Tutor ModeSimple storytelling and detailed step-by-step reasoning, to prevent early confusion.
  2. Socratic ModeGuided questioning instead of direct answers, building independent problem-solving.
  3. Audio LessonsLessons in multiple languages, for flexible listening-based learning anytime.
  4. Interactive WhiteboardReal-time problem-solving with AI-guided hints on a digital workspace.
  5. Virtual LabsStudents design their own experiments; the AI evaluates and gives feedback.
  6. Physics PlaygroundHands-on exploration of motion and gravity to visualise scientific laws.
  7. Mind MapA visual overview of learned concepts for big-picture understanding.
  8. Concept ConnectorLinks several topics to strengthen long-term retention.
  9. Concept ArticulationLearners explain concepts in their own words; gaps get corrected.
  10. QuizzesQuick assessments after lessons to find and fix mistakes early.
  11. Mastery AssessmentA concept mastery score highlighting strong and weak areas.
chapter four · and there's more

Step further inside the room.

🧮

Equation Solver

Snap a maths or physics problem. Get a step-by-step solution with audio that explains the why, not just the answer.

Quizzes

Short, sharp checks at the end of every chapter. We catch what slipped before it becomes a gap.

🧭

Guided Discovery

Instead of giving your child the answer, we ask the right next question. They reason their way to it themselves, the way Socrates would.

🚀

Interactive Course

Curriculum-aligned modules where your child can launch rockets, prevent satellite collisions, and explore real physics at their own pace.

🛠️

Study Tools

From formulas and graph plotting to interactive periodic tables: practical tools for everyday learning and real understanding.

🔔

Scheduling Agent

Helps students send WhatsApp reminders and quiz links to themselves, making it easier to stay consistent and learn on the go.

📅

Smart Time Table

Builds a personalised study plan from selected subjects, chapters and available time, with bite-sized microlearning for each day.

🧘

Meditation

Guided 10-minute breathing and meditation sessions that help students relax, refocus, and manage stress.

🎓

Career Counsellor

Maps career paths from a student's interests and recommends leading universities aligned to their goals.

chapter five · what you actually see
fig. 03 · the weekly report card A weekly skill mastery report card showing percent mastered, strengths, and what to focus on next
per-skill mastery, strengths, and what to focus on next

Not just where marks were lost. Why.

Most reports stop at a number. Ours show you what is actually going on underneath.

01Every skill, tracked separately.

Behind every question are the small skills it actually tests. We measure each one on its own, so you see exactly what has clicked and what has not.

02A careless slip looks different from a real gap.

Sometimes a wrong answer means your child does not understand. Sometimes they just rushed. Our system weighs both, so the report tells you what to actually worry about.

03The picture updates with every answer.

No waiting for the next test. Mastery scores quietly recalibrate every time your child practises.

honestly

No single thing is going to do it all.

Not one tutor. Not one app. Not one chatbot. Kids don't learn the same way every day. Some days they're sharp, some days they're stuck, some days they just need ten quiet minutes before a test. So we built BrightChalk to be there for all of it. It's not magic. It's just a lot of small things, in one place, that quietly add up.
